What I love IN New Orleans --- Ray

I have been here roughly two and more  months, and I love this place. I found something interested for me. I want to introduce what I met in New Orleans.

New Orleans has a difference culture with my country. Recently, I found a very interesting thing for me is the bar. The time was 3:30 am on the Frenchmen street; many people still stood on the street and talked with friends. Also, there are many people danced in the bar, when the music was started, people would have the same type of dance. It’s amazing, since I don’t know why everybody knows the songs and dancing moves. Such as the song of cupid shuffle, it’s very funny song, and I feel so embarrassed since sometime I turned the wrong side. I think music play an important comment in New Orleans.

Besides to the music and bar, I think one of my loves in New Orleans is a gallery. I cannot understand why there are many galleries here, and they are really pretty. In the photo, it is my favorite – bone rider. It’s very funny and interesting. The imaging can be concreted; I think it is a very cool thing.

The other thing I love in New Orleans is po-boy. Actually, I love to eat hamburgers until I met po-boy. It’s a really special food here, since there arer many different kind of the favors can let me choose. Also, it is really big, and I usually ate two hamburgers in Taiwan. But for this pig po-boy, It's only one can fulfill your stomach.

For food, exhibitions, and entertainment, I think here is the best place when you are looking for some place for your vacations. Since you can find po-boy, gumbo, and jampalaya, museums, and bars easily, I love this place. Hope I could find more interesting things in New Orleans.

Lots of Art to enjoy in New Orleans - Felix

During the time I have been in New Orleans, one of the things I like about their people is the passion for art. You can find a lot of art in each of its streets. Museums, antique shops, costume shops, and many art galleries.

New Orleans Museum of Art NOMA , is a place where you can always relax enjoying good art. They always make good artists exhibitions and events for the public to enjoy. When you have the opportunity to visit, you can see many tourists and people from the city.

 Julia Street is another place that I like a lot because is full of many art galleries. It is amazing the number of works of art that you can find walking by this street. Many tourists visit these art galleries every day .  

The first Saturday of each month these galleries organize an event exhibiting works of different artists, but the one that impressed me the most is the night of white linen. It´s a big celebration where all galleries exhibit their best works of art. It´s a public event where everybody wears white and walk visiting the galleries.

                                    

I also like Royal Street, there is a wide variety of art, not only paintings but also all kinds of antiques, antique furniture, antique jewelry, antique weapons and collectibles. It´s amazing the variety of art that you can find there.

 Now I understand, why New Orleans is a city of choice for tourists from around the world. Art is part of the city´s culture, and it´s a paradise for art-loving people.

Felix¨s Movie Magic

During class last Wednesday, we saw 4 clips of the movies Harry Potter, Sin City, Avatar and Hero. Then we watch the clips, we selected 2 clips and we made two mosaics about the movies with colored paper.

I choose a scene from the movie Sin City. First, there is a woman standing on a balcony of a dark city. It is night time and the whole scene is in black and white. The only color that stands out from the scene is the red color of her dress and her lips. Then a man approaches her and offers a cigarette. She takes the cigarette and starts smoking. He tells her he has been following her because she is very beautiful and he likes her eyes. Her eyes immediately highlighted in green. They approach each other and began kissing in the rain. Finally, he shoots her and she dies.

Below you can see a picture of my mosaic, I tried to represent the colors, darkness and cold of the night in the city. I also tried to capture the scene where she highlights a red color of the dress and her lips. Behind the balcony, you can see how I tried to represent with different tones of black and white the darkness of the city.

I choose a scene from the movie Harry Potter. In this scene you can see Harry Potter representing his school (Gryffindor) in a competition of Quidditch. In that scene harry potter is flying on a broom. His outfit is red and yellow, these are the colors that represent his school team. The other team is represented by another boy, his outfit is green and white. They need to catch a flying ball. Harry Potter falls to the floor but then gets up and wins the competition.

I tried to represent this scene in the mosaic. The main color in the mosaic is green, you can see in my mosaic how I tried to illustrate the competition. Harry Potter´s outfit is red and yellow. His opponent´s outfit is green and white.

I hope you can imagine or remember the scenes of these movies through my mosaics. You can see how colors are very important factors in movies. With colors emotions can be expressed.

Green Nature

This movie shows the simple nature which symbolized by a bird and tree. I choose the green because it's always the symbol of spring and nature. It wasn't hard for me to do this movie because I just took the idea from the original movie and  I draw it by using some green papers with a scissor and some glue.

The War

In the second movie we see to girls with red dress fighting by swords in the fall. I just reflected the same colores of the original movie. As the first movie I used some papers, scissor,Cotton,black pen

 and glue.

Ray's Movie Magic

 Photograph Mosaics is a very special project for me. Besides to the Valentine's card or mother's day card, I think it has been a long time I did not make a card by myself and for myself. Let’s start to talk about what I learn about Movie Magic, Watch Movie Clips, Create and Photograph Mosaics.

The purpose of the language is that can communicate you idea and thought with other people. Sometimes we said a lot of words, but the listener could not understand what we what to present. However, when we use an appropriate diagram or pictures will lead the listener to get our idea easily. That’s why we need to learn this project, since it is very common in our life. We can spend only a couple of hours to watch a movie, which is adapted from some novel, but more time was spend if we didn’t watch the movie. Moreover, I prefer to watch movies.

Also, in the movie, the director usually use a lot of the movie techniques to make an amazing film. I think color is the main reason why we learn in this project. For example, I chose Harry Potter and Hero to be my project, and we can find the color, which are very helpful to identify and understand the main idea in the movie. In Hero, the red mean anger and ardor, the director use a lot of simple color in this movie, and present the different personal and emotional.

Regarding to my Mosaics for HERO, I follow color of the movie clips, and made my mosaics card. You can found in the photo, this told about the two women they fight in a red forest, and there are only few color in this scene. Since both of them wear red clothes and the background is also fulfilling the red color and white light, I use only main red in this Mosaic. I watched this movie in Taiwan, it’s really simple color in the entire movie, it is not like the Avatar has abundant color in every scenes.

The other is Golden Snitch, this is very pretty in the movie. It is flying in my Mosaics. The green is the grasslands and the blue-white is the sky. Of course, the golden snitch must be yellow. That’s very precious in the game, since it can get most of score in the game. Also, I love yellow when I was in childhood, since yellow can make me feel happy and hope. That’s why I prefer to choose Golden Snitch in this project.

In brief, in this project help us use color to present the something we want to express. In my Mosaics, I think the simple colors will lead you to guess what the scene in the movie even I do not write a lot of words. 

Ray's Vanitas Self-Portrait

Vanitas Self-Portrait is very interesting topic for me, and there are three things choosed to introduce, which are very important things to me. The life can not pass silently without them, since they are my spirit foods. 

The first object is my teapot. This teapot accompanies me for a long time before I came to America. To made a cup of Chinese tea with boiling water and tasted it slowly is the most interesting for my life. Tea was made in a covered tea bowl tastes good. Also, to drink this Chinese tea can let my heart feel smooth. In Taiwan, people loves find some friends go to the mountain to make tea and look at the night sight, and it is no exception to me. 

The second object is my instant camera - someone called Polaroid. Although, my girl friend and my sister always said I have horrible photographic techniques. However, I still love to take picture, such as flower, mountain, sky, pedestrian. For instant camera, I think it has a special feeling than the digital camera, since the photo is unique and collection value.

The third object is medicine. This is a famous medicine in Taiwan, it can treat your chest pain, relieving depression and anchoring mind. Since I know basketball is a strong physical activity, I love to play basketball, and have a lot of body contact with the player on the court. I know treat any pains in America are not an easy thing. That's why I think this medicine can not leave me. In the photo, the man want to show his Chinese kung fu, and I think it wants to present eat this medicine you can like him so strong body.

Plus, I also found something interesting photos from some websites such as the photo below. How to do this one photo, I want to try this kind of photo, but I am always fail. Now there are more people believed it was just an illusion caused by the shooting angle.

I love to take photos, and these things also have a lot of meaning to me. Photos can help recall something I miss, and let me feel they are still in my brain and never forgot them.  Moreover, if you want to try my Chinese green tea, I can share some with you.
